A comprehensive pre-call test is now part of the patient check-in experience, ensuring appointment readiness. It runs automatically before each visit and checks a patient’s camera, microphone, speakers, and internet connection - so your session starts smoothly and you can focus on care.
Your patient’s experience
The entire check-in experience takes less than a minute to complete and guides your patient through checking their camera, microphone, speakers, and connection before joining your waiting room.
1. Your patient opens your Waiting Room link and sees a welcome screen introducing the check-in process
2. Your patient clicks Grant access to camera and mic and follows the prompts from their device or browser to allow doxy.me access.
If permissions are denied, doxy.me automatically re-prompts or displays tailored instructions based on the patient’s device and browser.
3. Next, your patient sees a self-preview video and confirms that their camera is working.
4. They’ll then speak aloud to test their microphone. The microphone icon moves when sound is detected, confirming that it’s working properly.
5. A short sound plays to test the patient’s speakers. Your patient selects Yes if they hear the sound.
6. Your patient then enters their full name and clicks the arrow button to continue.
7. If a passcode is required for your waiting room, your patient enters it and clicks Next.
8. After all tests are complete, your patient sees a confirmation message that they’re ready. They click Check in to enter your waiting room.
9. Once checked in, your patient briefly sees “Testing your connection” at the bottom of their video preview while doxy.me verifies internet strength and stability. When testing is complete, the control bar appears, allowing your patient to toggle their camera or microphone and, on mobile, switch between front and back cameras.
Your experience as the provider
1. Once your patient finishes the pre-call test and clicks Check in, their Patient Information Card appears in your Waiting Room.
2. While doxy.me evaluates the patient’s setup and connection, you’ll see the message “Testing patient’s connection” displayed below their name. This indicates doxy.me is checking the patient’s device and internet strength - an early indicator of how stable and clear the call will be.
3. During this time, the Start video call button will be temporarily disabled and display: “Available after connection test is complete.”
4. Once the test is complete, the button becomes active and you can start the session as usual.
If doxy.me detects any issues during the check-in experience, you’ll see them clearly marked on the Patient Information Card:
Device setup issues — You’ll see alerts if your patient’s camera, microphone, or speakers didn’t pass the test.
Connection quality issues — If the internet connection is weak, you’ll see a message that the call may begin in Low Definition or Audio Only mode until it improves.
5. Once the test finishes successfully, the status will update to show that your patient is ready, allowing you to begin the video call with confidence.
