Why you may lose Camera or Microphone access when using a phone

If your camera and mic are unexpectedly altered, an incoming call while you’re on a doxy.me call on a cellular device is the most likely reason. The best thing to do is enable Do Not Disturb (DND) on your phone or the patient’s phone whenever you’re in an active call.

How to set up Do Not Disturb:

iOS Device

Here’s how to prevent phone calls from interrupting a live stream on an iOS device:

  1. Go to Settings and select Do Not Disturb.

  2. Turn on Do Not Disturb.

  3. Turn Scheduled off.

  4. Under the Silence option, select Always.

  5. Under Allow Calls From, select the No One option.

  6. Turn Repeated Calls off.

Android Device

Here’s how to prevent phone calls from interrupting a live stream on an Android device:

  1. Go to Settings and select Sounds.

  2. Turn Silent mode on.

  3. Turn Vibrate in silent mode off.

  4. Navigate to Do not disturb and enable the setting.

  5. Under both Calls and Messages, select the No one option.

  6. Turn Repeated calls off.

Here are some other actions that will alter camera and mic permissions when on a video call on your mobile device:

  • Siri or OK Google: Accidently selecting Siri or OK Google (which needs mic access and sometimes video), this will override the mic access and give it to the virtual assistant.

  • Placing Web Browser in Background: If you put the browser where doxy.me is being used into background to use another app or browser, the camera or mic functionality may pause.

  • Locking the screen: Locking the device screen by accident will cut off the cam and mic access as the mobile device will enter a kind of “sleep” mode.
