EMDR settings and customization
You can adjust the bilateral stimulation (BLS) settings to suit each patient's needs.
Visual only: Your patient will see a shape moving across their screen in the movement direction selected in Settings. Customize the movement direction, speed, dot color, and background to create a more personalized visual experience.
Auditory only: Your patient will hear sounds alternating between the left and right side through their headphones. You can choose from different sound styles such as “Big drum”, “Cowbell", and others. It's recommended that patients use headphones for auditory BLS.
Visual + Auditory: Your patient will both see a shape moving across their screen and hear alternating sounds through their headphones, aligned with the selected movement direction. You can customize movement direction, speed, colors, backgrounds, and sound styles together for a more tailored session experience.
💡 Your EMDR settings and customization will be saved between sessions
Understand the patient’s EMDR experience
When you start EMDR, the patient's screen will adjust according to your chosen settings.
If you have selected auditory BLS only, the patient will still see the EMDR window, but no visual stimulus will appear on screen.
If you have selected visual BLS, the EMDR view is optimized based on screen size. On smaller devices, video tiles are minimized, while on desktop devices they are moved to the side of the screen.
If the patient is using a touchscreen device, they will receive a prompt to start EMDR. This ensures that the experience is in focus. For non-touchscreen devices, EMDR will start automatically.
💡 It is strongly recommended that patients use a desktop device rather than a mobile device when participating in remote EMDR therapy
FAQs
What device or browser limitations are there to using EMDR?
EMDR is optimized for desktop use and touch devices are not recommended. Please note that visual EMDR therapy works best on desktop devices due to the wider screen. Auditory EMDR therapy works best when the patient is using headphones.
Can I change EMDR settings during a live session?
Yes. You can update customization settings during an active EMDR session, including movement direction, dot color, and background, without needing to restart the session.
What customization options are available in EMDR?
Customizable movement directions (horizontal, vertical, and diagonal), adjustable movement speeds, selection of dot colors, calming backgrounds, and multiple auditory sound styles to help tailor sessions to different needs and preferences.
💡 Note: If you transfer a patient to another provider or room during a session, any active apps in your session will close, and no session data will be shared. The receiving provider can open any apps they need to continue patient care.
