Dialer gives providers a simple backup option for connecting with patients by phone, without leaving doxy.me or using a separate calling tool.
Dialer can be helpful when:
A patient has an unreliable internet connection
A patient is having trouble joining their appointment online
A patient does not have access to a compatible device
How to call a patient by phone
From your Dashboard, go to the Dialer button in the center of the screen, next to Invite Via
2. Click Dialer
3. Enter the patient’s phone number (US numbers only at this time)
4. Confirm the number is correct
5. Start the call
The patient will receive a phone call from a number listed as "Doxy.me Telehealth".
What happens during a Dialer call
When the patient answers, you’ll see an in-call screen that looks similar to the in-call video screen. Because the patient is joining by phone, they will not be able to see you. Your camera will automatically be turned off during the call.
You’ll see a message in the center of the screen showing that the session is a phone call.
What tools are available during a Dialer call
Most doxy.me tools and apps are not available during phone calls because the patient is connected by telephone instead of video.
During a Dialer call, providers can still use:
Closed Captions
Picture-in-Picture
How to call the patient again
If the patient does not answer, declines the call, or has a busy line, you can try calling again.
Stay on the Dialer screen
Click Try again
Confirm the number
Start the call again
What the patient experiences
The patient does not need to open a browser, download an app, or join by video.
They will receive a regular phone call from a number listed as “Doxy.me Telehealth”. Once they answer, they will be connected to the provider by phone.
Dialer History
Anonymized call details are logged similarly to a regular video session to help provide a record of the session.
Go to the History tab on your Sidebar and look at the Call type column. Phone calls and video calls are labeled to help you easily determine how a call was made.
