How to use chat

Message your patients in the Patient Queue or during a session

Updated over a week ago

The chat feature in doxy.me makes it easy to send text messages to patients—before or during a call. It’s especially useful for sharing written instructions, links, or clarifying something like the spelling of a medication. You can also use chat if you or your patient are having audio issues during the session.

Available on all plans and most devices ⭐

Chat with Patients in the Queue

To send a message before a call begins:

  1. Navigate to the Patient Card in the Waiting Room

  2. Click the Chat button to open a conversation

  3. Type in a message and click Enter on your keyboard or press the send button

You can message multiple patients at once while they’re waiting. If someone replies, you’ll see a blue circle with the number of unread messages next to their name. Just follow the same steps to open their chat and reply.

💡Tip: Hide a chat window by clicking on the carrot symbol ^

Chat with a Patient During a Session

Need to send a message while on a session?

  1. Click the down arrow (⌵) next to the patient’s name on their Patient Card

  2. Click Chat

You can chat with patients who are in the Waiting Room while you're on a call. Any new chat message will show a blue badge with the number of unread messages.

Manage chat notifications

You can choose whether to be notified of new chat messages or not. To manage chat notifications, go to the Notifications tab in Account Settings.

💡Tip: Chat conversations aren't stored - they will only be available until your session ends. If you need to keep a record of your chat conversation, please download it on the call end screen.
