Use Payment to securely collect fees directly from your patients in over 135 currencies by connecting your Stripe account, helping you accept credit card payments in the Doxy.me Waiting Room or during appointments.

How to use Payment

💡 If you used Payment before moving to Doxy.me 2.0, your Stripe details will automatically be added to your new experience. No additional action is required.

Get started

  1. On your Dashboard, click the Apps button on the Sidebar

  2. Select Explore all apps

  3. Click on Payment then select Add to doxy.me to install the app

  4. A pop-up message will appear requiring you to connect your Stripe account

  5. Click Connect Stripe account

  6. Connect your doxy.me account to Stripe using the prompts

  7. Once your Stripe account is connected, you’ll be directed to Payment settings where you can update your preferences

  8. You’re now ready to begin requesting payments from patients

Request a payment from your Waiting Room

  1. Before an appointment, click the Apps button on the Sidebar and select Payment

  2. Select a patient then enter the payment amount

  3. Click Request payment

  4. A status message will appear at the top of your screen to notify you of the patient’s payment status

  5. Your patient will receive a prompt asking them to pay using Google Pay or by entering their credit card details

  6. When payment has been received from your patient, the notification message will update

Request a payment during an appointment

  1. During an appointment, click the Apps button on the Control Bar and select Payment

  2. Select a patient then enter the payment amount

  3. Click Request payment

  4. A status message will appear at the top of your screen to notify you of the patient’s payment status

  5. Your patient will receive a prompt asking them to pay using Google Pay or by entering their credit card details

  6. When payment has been received from your patient, the notification message will update


Frequently asked questions

Can I receive payments during a Group Call?

Yes, you may request payments during a Group Call using the “on an appointment” steps outlined above.

How long will it take for the payment to reach my account?

The first time you receive a payment, it may take up to seven days to appear in your Stripe account. Future transactions will take up to two business days to appear.

What does it cost?

Stripe charges 2.9% + $0.30 USD per transaction.

What is Stripe and why do I need an account?

Stripe is a payment processing platform that partners with doxy.me. Stripe powers the Doxy.me Payment app and allows you to accept patient payments using Google Pay or via credit card. To keep your banking details private, you’ll need to create an account directly with Stripe.

What will my patients see on their bank statements?

Your patients may see a “STRIPE” charge on their bank statement if they made a payment to you through doxy.me. To customize the information that may be visible in statements and receipts, go to your Stripe account and edit the “statement descriptor.”

What should I do if my patient cancels my payment request?

You may request the payment again by following the steps above. Please explain why you’re requesting a payment and that it will be collected securely through a world-leading payment processor called Stripe.

Can I request payment while on a mobile device?

Yes, you may still use Payment if you are providing care using a mobile device or tablet.

Need to accept a payment in another currency?

Payments from your patient will default to United States Dollars (USD). To change this, click the currency drop-down and select the currency you’d like to use. Doxy.me supports any currencies supported by Stripe (excluding zero-decimal currencies).

What credit cards can I accept with Payment?

All major credit cards are accepted.

Accepted card types include:

  • American Express

  • China UnionPay (CUP)

  • Discover & Diners Club

  • eftpos Australia

  • Japan Credit Bureau (JCB)

  • Mastercard

  • Visa

My patient’s payment was unsuccessful. What should I ask them to do?

If your patient’s payment is unsuccessful, their card will not be charged. Ask your patient to try paying with the same method again or recommend that they try a different payment method.


💡Important: Do not unlink and reconnect your Stripe account from Payment

If you unlink your Stripe account from Payment and try to reconnect, a completely new Stripe business account will be created instead of reusing your existing one. This is a Stripe security feature and there is no way to link back to your original account once unlinked.To avoid issues:

  • Do not disconnect your Stripe account unless absolutely necessary

  • Manage changes in your Stripe dashboard instead

  • If you are unsure, contact doxy.me support before disconnecting
